Ray Harryhausen

I was sad to hear of Ray Harryhausen’s recent departure from this earth. I’m incredibly thankful that I got to meet the man himself, discuss Medusa over a risotto lunch and then take his photo (see below). How wonderful. (click the pic to be taken to the Ray Harryhausen website):

Humbug- New Short

Screening as part of Pattern Power / Superstripe: A cultural festival of pattern exploration taking place at the Londonewcastle project space 6th-21st April 2013. The film is a response to the brief ‘Stripes’ and for those of you that don’t know, a Humbug is a British boiled sweet (candy) with stripes across it.

Synopisis: Wilf had a pet pig named humbug, they were inseparable…until yesterday, there was an accident with the Eggman’s dog and Humbug was no more…

Humbug was shot in just one day and, in its entirety, including idea conception, had a 2 week turnaround, a teeny tiny budget for art dept and a whole lotta love.

The turnaround on this short was 2 weeks, with a one day shoot. At the beginning of the two weeks we didn’t even have a script- so here’s a glimpse in to some of the hurried storyboards, sketches and props that came out of the tiny amount of prep time we had:

New Short Film: HUMBUG

Amongst a few other exciting things, I recently directed this live action short film entitled ‘Humbug’. For those that don’t know a ‘Humbug’ is a British boiled sweet with stripes across it.

The film screens as part of ‘Superstripe‘ – A cultural festival of pattern exploration. The film is a response to a very open brief of ‘Stripes’.

I got a great still on set (see below). In his acting debut Fred Thomas plays ‘Wilf’ in the story. Along with Fred the film stars Julian Bird, Charlotte Morgan and a real live piglet. It was shot in just one day and, in its entirety, including idea conception, we had a 2 week turnaround and a teeny tiny budget. How’s that for teamwork?

The exhibition takes place at the Londonewcastle Project Space in Shoreditch and runs between the 6th and 21st of April.

Filmclub UK video broadcast

Last week I was interviewed for Filmclub UK and the video was broadcast to various schools all over the UK. Filmclub UK have distributed Stanley Pickle to over 7000 schools nationally and abroad as part of education in secondary schools. Click the pic for the interview:
